Sunderland Exits from FA Cup

Posted on November 17, 2020 in Millwall

Sunderland, the team of third tier English Football League has now finished their journey in the FA Cup. They lost to Mansfield and had to exit from the tournament. This is actually the domestic tournament of the English football association and now they are looking to make some changes in the team to have better results in the future. Just before a week, Phil Parkinson was praising the reserve bench of the team as they have a strong team sitting on the bench. The comprehensive win at Gillingham kept the hope alive for Sunderland as they managed to win without one of their most important players Chris Maguire. According to Parkinson, it is important to have a strong second XI team so that they can adjust to the busy schedule of League 1. This is why Parkinson may have changed 8 players of the first team to play against Mansfield.

After the loss against Mansfield, some of the players of the second team are now doubtful about the place in the team. According to the coach, the players of the second team could not do justice with their names. This is why they should try to have a place in the playing team with more intense will power. Mansfield was looking for their first win in this season but Sunderland had some easy victories during their campaign.

Bailey Wright delighted to sign for Sunderland on a permanent basis

Posted on September 23, 2020 in Millwall

Australia international Bailey Wright is pleased to have signed a permanent contact with Sunderland following an impressive loan spell earlier in the year. The 28-year-old joined the Black Cats on a short-term loan from Bristol City in January and he played five successive league games where they picked up 12 points with four clean sheets.

However, he thereafter sustained an injury and that contributed to the Black Cats dip in form as they accumulated only five points from the next five matches. That proved costly in the end as they failed to make the cut for the play-offs before the season was curtailed because of the corona virus pandemic and the club are now preparing for their third campaign in League One.

Sunderland in the market for a new goalkeeper

Posted on June 2, 2020 in Millwall

The future of Sunderland goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin remains under a lot of doubt, as the player has not been offered a new contract by the north-east outfit. Despite being one of the key members of the team over the last two seasons, Jon McLaughlin has not been given a contract and the 32-year-old is being linked with a number of clubs. Blackburn are one of the names who are showing interest in the Scotland international. IfMcLaughlin ends up leaving the Black Cats, Sunderland may have to dip into the market to strengthen this position. This is due to the presence of Lee Burge as the only remaining senior goalkeeper in the squad under this situation.

It appears thatMcLaughlin may not be offered a new contract after all, as Sunderland have been linked with a move for Matija Sarkic. The Aston Villa goalkeeper has revealed that he will leave the Premier League outfit at the end of the campaign. The 22-year-old will be available on a free transfer. Furthermore, Sunderland have been linked with St Mirren goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky but there is plenty of competition for this 29-year-old with Houston Dynamo, Celtic, and Rangers linked with the Czech Republic man. Meanwhile, ESPN also reports that Sunderland have been chasing James Hillson, who plays as a goalkeeper for Arsenal in the youth setups.

Shaun Williams pleased with the style of play under Gary Rowett

Posted on January 15, 2020 in Millwall

Millwall midfielder Shaun Williams has said that he has been impressed with the style of play under current manager Gary Rowett. The former Derby County boss took charge of the south London side at the backend of October and he has since transformed the club’s fortunes with just one league defeat from seven league games.

During this period, Rowett has preferred to go with a less direct style of play unlike his predecessor Neil Harris and that has certainly paid dividends with the team staying well clear of the drop zone. At the weekend, Williams was on the right end of a superb team move as he scored at the hour mark against Birmingham City but his efforts were not sufficient after Jake Clarke-Salter equalised for the Blues 11 minutes from time.
