Fleetwood Town were able to secure a point against Southend United thanks to a late goal fromConor McLaughlin.
It appeared that Southend were heading for three points when they managed a spirited comeback through goals from Jack Payne and Adam Barrett. This was after Fleetwood have taken the lead early in the second half through Robert Grant. Considering that Payne scored with eight minutes of normal time remaining, Southend seemed to have secured three points. This would have been a disaster for Fleetwood Town in their fight against relegation. However, McLaughlin came up with this vital point that helps the club stay above the relegation zone.
Only recently, manager Steven Pressley set a target of eight victories in the remainder of the campaign in order to avoid relegation from League One. The team had a sweet boost of confidence following the 2-0 win over Peterborough United in the previous game. This coupled with a point against Southend will only make Fleetwood confident that they can avoid relegation. The upcoming games for the club are against Oldham, Millwall, and Blackpool. A figure of 65 points will be enough to sustain their position in League One. This has been the magical figure to achieve safety in the division and Fleetwood are approaching the 50 point mark. Conor McLaughlin not glad with Timing of Matches

Conor McLaughlin might have put on the Northern Ireland kit and preparing for the coming friendly matches, but, he has been honest enough to confess that he is not glad with the timing of the matches and his mind is still at Fleetwood Town where a tough struggle is for the Cod Army to save their stature as a League One Club.
However, McLaughlin understands the perspective of the Northern Ireland head coach that he is looking to make the side come together for a couple of matches so that the players get to know about their roles a little more clearly and also, he gets to see who fits where and which combination gives him the best result at which positions.
McLaughlin also has the idea that the performances in these friendly matches will count in terms of who will be the coach’s top picks on the visit to France and so, he is taking the assignment seriously and would not just turn up because he has to make the numbers.
He says he is going to take it as a chance to play himself into some kind of form and then, returns to Fleetwood feeling better and helps them in his fullest capacity which he believes he hasn’t quite done. (more…)

Conor McLaughlin is excited with the fact that Northern Ireland has been slotted with strong sides in Group C in the main draw of the Euro Cup.
Northern Ireland looks an absolute minnow on paper in comparison to the other three sides which make Group C, but, according to McLaughlin, rather than fearing the strong opposition, he and his teammates would look to enjoy the challenge.
This is the first time ever that Northern Ireland will be competing in Europe. They had been failing to qualify for the last five decades, but, they finally made it this time around with some spirited performances in the qualifying tournament.
They topped their qualifying group i.e. Group F by winning 6 out of their 10 games.
They will start their campaign in the main tournament on 12th of June, 2016 when they take on Poland at Allianz Riviera in Nice.
Speaking on TV last night about Northern Ireland’s qualification and how the team is approaching the main tournament, McLaughlin said, “To be honest, it’s not totally sunk in that we are in the main draw.” (more…)

Fleetwood Town once again have the ability to field defender Conor McLaughlinafter the player was unavailable in the last fortnight due to his commitments with the Northern Ireland national team.McLaughlin is one of the star players in the Fleetwood Town squad and it is not surprising that he was called up for the international duty. The team has had a rough couple of matches with some narrow defeats against the likes of Chesterfield and Peterborough United. The team has the possibility to return to form by securing a victory against Swindon Town.
It is easier said than done since Fleetwood Town have managed only one win in the last four home matches. A major selection headache for manager Martin Ling will be the inclusion of loan players. Since the football league does not allow the inclusion of more than five players, who are on loan, at a club into the matchday squad, Ling will have to make some tough choices for the Swindon match. One player who is most likely to be involved isTariqeFosu, who impressed after coming on as a sub in the defeat against Peterborough United. Conor McLaughlin has managed to play at the international stage

The 23 year old defender Conor McLaughlin has managed to play at the international stage in over 30 occasions as a youth player by going through the Northern Ireland U16-U21 teams. Now that he is old enough to be placed in the main team of his country, Conor is delighted about having this chance as the defender of Fleetwood Town took the chance to express what it feels like to perform for Northern Ireland in important tournaments such as the 2016 Euro’s qualifications.
Conor McLaughlin has been featured in every single 2016 Euro’s qualification match for Northern Ireland including the country’s latest match which was played on March 29 at the Windsor Park against Finland. This game resulted in a 2-1 victory for Northern Ireland as national side of Conor McLaughlin remains in the 2nd spot of Group F with 12 points having been secured so far.
The defender of Fleetwood Town was called up for Northern Ireland’s match against Finland and the right-back was happy to be able to represent his country once more and help them in their quest on progressing into the next rounds of the 2016 Euro’s but it was a bittersweet feeling for Conor McLaughlin as he had to miss out from the match that his club had to play against Preston North End which was played on March 29.

Conor Mclaughlin – The most Impressive Player

Conor Mclaughlin has made over 20 league appearances for Fleetwood Town in the English League One. The 23 year old right-back of Northern Ireland has made a number of standout performances for his club; his campaign has been so impressive that he has attracted the attention and interest from clubs in the English Championship League.
The Northern Ireland player had to be at his homeland in order to receive the George Best Breakthrough Award as he was rewarded for his surprising and impeccable string of performances that the young defender has been displaying.
Mclaughlin was delighted to receive the award but he went on saying that he couldn’t celebrate as the young defender had to be back in action and training with his teammates on the following day. (more…)
UEFA European Championship to change format

The traditional format of the UEFA European Championship is to have a 16 team format but in the upcoming edition of the European it will be contested between 24 teams and the right-back of Fleetwood Town, ConorMclaughlin is a huge supporter of this recent change as the Northern Ireland defender believes that this can allow other squads on having a chance of making it further then what they usually do.
ConorMclaughlin is a consistent performer not only for his club Fleetwood Town but also for Northern Ireland as the defender has performed in all of the 2016 Euro qualifying matches that his country has played so far and Mclaughlin displayed his support towards the change that allows more teams on competing which gives the smaller nations a bigger chance of reaching the finals.
“You listen to all the home nations and they’re all saying the same thing. I don’t know if it’s the change in qualification with three teams, it’s given a lot of smaller nations a lot of confidence that they can get to a major competition’’ ConorMclaughlin said.
Northern Ireland is positioned in the 2nd spot of group F after having collected a total of 9 points from the 4 matches that the nation has played and ConorMcluaghlin has played in every single one of those games as the young right-back has turned into a consistent and key performer for his nation.
ConorMclaughlin is also a vital player for his club, Fleetwood Town with the English club going through their first season in the English League One after being promoted from League Two.

Fleetwood Town’s opening 4 matches of the League One saw them winning 3 of those games and drawing 1 as the team of Graham Alexander collected 10 points out of those matches. It’s been a very successful start of the season for Fleetwood Town but the head coach of the club, Graham Alexander wants to avoid getting carried away as he wants his players to remain calm and continue picking up positive results.
Graham Alexander told the media: “It’s a long season and we’re not getting carried away. But if we maintain this performance level into all of the other games, we know we’ll be a force for anyone. The results have been a culmination of the performances. That’s what we have to maintain because it’s something you can control. Sometimes you can’t control a result but you can control your performance and the players have done that so far.”
This is the first time in the history of Fleetwood Town that they are able to enter the League One and compete against the rest of the teams which are participating in the 3rd tier league of English football. The boss of Fleetwood Town, Graham Alexander wants his squad of players to remain focused throughout the entire season as it has only started and they will want to collect as much points as possible in order to keep their chances of getting promoted to the Championship League alive.
One of the latest signings of Fleetwood Town is Stephen Crainey after the defender reached the end of his contract with Wigan Athletic and decided to sign a 1 year long contract with the League One club.

Mclaughlin Signs Contract Extension

Fleetwood Town’s Conor Mclaughlin signed a new deal with the League One that will be seeing the 22 year old right back remaining with them for 3 more years. Mclaughlin helped his team on earning a top spot during the previous season of the League Two league and now Fleetwood Town will be facing off against the teams in League One.
After signing his contract extension with Fleetwood Town, Mclaughlin expressed his satisfaction about remaining with the club for a few more years and said: ‘’ I’m delighted to sign on again here. It was a hard one to get done because I was obviously away with Northern Ireland, and I’ve been on holiday the past couple of weeks. I’m really happy to get it done now though. We’ve got an unbelievable set of lads here and a great manager, so it was a no brainer for me to sign on again’’
At his 22 years of age, Mclaughlin has already represented his country, Northern Ireland at the international stage. Having made 35 league appearances for Fleetwood Town in the previous just shows the impact he has made with the club since arriving.
During his debut season at Fleetwood Town, Mclaughlin only managed on making 19 league appearances but he has cemented his first place spot in the team as a consistent defender for his club.
When the contract was entering its final stages, the head coach of Fleetwood Town, Graham Alexander was eager and excited about being able to extend the stay of Conor Mclaughlin in the club.
‘’We’re almost there with Conor’s contract. I’d say we’re in the final yard. We’re very hopeful of getting things sorted with Conor because he did a fantastic job for us last season but I know it’s not certain until he’s signed on the dotted line’’ That was the statement released by the coach Graham Alexander as he revealed to the public that Mclaughlin was on the verge of extending his contract with Fleetwood Town.
McLaughlin Keeps A Level Head

Fleetwood Town have been battling throughout the season in order to tie up an automatic promotion spot that will see them get promoted to League One. There are only four matches left in the campaign, but Fleetwood are facing a tough fight in order to get into the automatic promotion spots. They are third in the table right now with a five point gap between them and third placed Chesterfield. It is also now looking highly unlikely that they will be able to catch table leaders Scunthorpe United and Rochdale in the second position.
Despite this, midfielder Conor McLaughlin says that the players will be giving their absolute best in the hope of automatic promotion. They are not prepared to give up until it is mathematically impossible for Fleetwood to get promoted automatically. McLaughlin will be aware that getting promoted to the play-offs is certainly not going to be easy since the form book goes out of the window in such matches. McLaughlin says that Fleetwood have shown over the season that they have enough quality to be able to finish in the top three.
The club have been beaten just once in the last six matches of all competitions, but they have just one win in the last three. They’ll take on Cheltenham Town during the weekend.
“We’re going to fight right to the end to get automatic promotion. If we get a bit of luck then we can get there. We know we’ve got the quality to do it. The lads were disappointed. We had a few chances to go ahead but in the end it wasn’t to be. The lads up top have been scoring goals all season so I suppose we were unlucky,” said McLaughlin about the chances of Fleetwood getting promoted to League One at the end of this campaign.
