The future of Sunderland goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin remains under a lot of doubt, as the player has not been offered a new contract by the north-east outfit. Despite being one of the key members of the team over the last two seasons, Jon McLaughlin has not been given a contract and the 32-year-old is being linked with a number of clubs. Blackburn are one of the names who are showing interest in the Scotland international. IfMcLaughlin ends up leaving the Black Cats, Sunderland may have to dip into the market to strengthen this position. This is due to the presence of Lee Burge as the only remaining senior goalkeeper in the squad under this situation.
It appears thatMcLaughlin may not be offered a new contract after all, as Sunderland have been linked with a move for Matija Sarkic. The Aston Villa goalkeeper has revealed that he will leave the Premier League outfit at the end of the campaign. The 22-year-old will be available on a free transfer. Furthermore, Sunderland have been linked with St Mirren goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky but there is plenty of competition for this 29-year-old with Houston Dynamo, Celtic, and Rangers linked with the Czech Republic man. Meanwhile, ESPN also reports that Sunderland have been chasing James Hillson, who plays as a goalkeeper for Arsenal in the youth setups.
After joining from Reading in the previous summer, Vaclav Hladky signed a one-year contract with Arsenal and has been part of the under 23 setup. However, he may be sent out to gain some experience, as it is very unlikely that he will feature for Arsenal anytime soon.
If he is available on loan, the likes of Barnsley, Luton, Portsmouth, and Leeds United may be in the race to sign him. Even here, Sunderland face a lot of competition.
